As the state moves forward with its vision of every child in Illinois entering kindergarten healthy, safe, eager to learn, and ready to succeed, it is critically-important that we acknowledge that the system is currently not serving all children and families equitably.
Consistently, children of color and children from low-income households and other marginalized groups, achieve success in school and in life at rates that are far lower than those of white and middle to upper-class households.
Good intentions are no longer enough. We need to look at outcomes, not intentions, and deeply examine how we can change our systems to better serve those who need the most support.
